If you've been away from Amazon for a while and come back looking for "Small and Light", you'll find it's gone. Amazon closed the Small and Light programme and replaced it with Low-Price FBA — and for UK sellers of cheap products, the change is mostly good news. Here's what happened, what the 2026 rules are, and how to know if your product qualifies.
What was Amazon Small and Light?
Small and Light (SnL) was a programme for cheap, small, lightweight products. In exchange for lower fulfilment fees, it ran on a separate fulfilment network with slower delivery and required sellers to enrol products individually. It made low-priced items viable on FBA that otherwise would have been swallowed by the standard fulfilment fee — but the slower shipping and the enrolment admin were real drawbacks.
What replaced it, and when
Amazon closed Small and Light for UK and European marketplaces on 26 September 2023 and replaced it with Low-Price FBA rates. The switch fixed the two big weaknesses of SnL:
- Same network, same speed. Low-Price FBA uses the standard fulfilment network, so qualifying products keep full Prime delivery speed — no more slow-lane shipping.
- Automatic, no enrolment. You don't sign products up. If an item's price qualifies, the reduced Low-Price FBA fee applies automatically.
So the modern answer to "how do I use Small and Light?" is: you don't — you just price your product into the Low-Price FBA band and the lower fee applies on its own.

The practical upshot: a lot of cheap products that used to be marginal on FBA now carry a meaningfully lower fulfilment fee, automatically. Combined with 2026's reduced referral fees on low-priced items, Amazon is clearly trying to make sub-£20 products work better for sellers. Always confirm the current price thresholds and category exclusions in Seller Central, as Amazon tweaks them.
What it means for retail arbitrage and cheap products
For UK arbitrage sellers, Low-Price FBA changes which clearance finds are worth buying. A £6–£9 product that would once have looked unprofitable after a full standard fulfilment fee can now clear a sensible margin on the reduced rate. But two cautions apply:
- Cheap doesn't mean safe. The referral-fee minimum of £0.25 and the fulfilment fee still have to leave room for profit. Run the numbers.
- Velocity still rules. A cheap product that sells slowly still racks up storage fees and aged-inventory surcharges. Low fulfilment fees don't rescue dead stock.

It depends on the item. Low-Price FBA is a clear improvement in speed (standard Prime network) and admin (no enrolment), and it's cheaper than standard FBA for qualifying products. Against the old Small and Light rates, some very light items can cost slightly more, so check each product's fulfilment fee.
